EarthLink Business (formerly New Edge Networks)

At EarthLink I plan, build, and maintain PHP- and Java-based web applications. I work with the Consumer Applications group to plan and implement customer-facing software on the web.  I am responsible for the functioning of the company website www.earthlinkbusiness.com, and for the portal for business customers mylink.earthlinkbusiness.com.

Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East

Enlisting the mad skills of my cohort Chris Esterline, web/UI designer extraordinaire, we produced a custom WordPress installation for my wife’s employer, Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East.  The oldest Habitat for Humanity affiliate on the West Coast, and the largest in Oregon, Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East has served low-income, hard-working families for over 25 years, providing home ownership opportunities to families in Portland and Gresham at 30-60% of the median Portland household income level.

Camp CAMREC

Camp CAMREC is a group retreat owned by Washington Mennonite Fellowship, which holds a ton of fond memories for me personally. I designed a new site and then sliced it up as a WordPress theme for simple content management capabilities.

Habitat for Humanity of Oregon

Habitat for Humanity of Oregon had a finished design and needed to turn it into a website, a task I was happy to complete using a sprinkle of WordPress, a scalpel, and the gImp.

NRYC

The Natural Resources Youth Camp of Washington’s website. NRYC is a not-for-profit organization that runs a weeklong summer camp in southwest Washington state. Design and implementation by yours truly.

A Balanced Life Health Care

This website for Portland-area naturopath Dr. Julie Kahn was designed by a third party, who delivered a PDF which I turned into a website. Hooray for PDF as a design format!

Online Organization/Club Management

Sports & Activities Management or S.A.M. was architected by myself and built with a team of 1 designer and 3 other engineers. I believe it is still in use by many clubs and organizations mostly around the Portland metro area. Some of the features that I remember fondly are:

  • Explorer-like folder browsing using DHTML
  • Storefront featuring nested cross-referenced product groups and credit-card ordering
  • Content management – updateable database-stored HTML content with a WYSIWIG editor
  • Bulletproof registration/storefront payment and accounting system (to my knowledge the software never left a single penny unaccounted for)
  • Auto-generated and updatable registration forms – you can create and update your online registration forms using the website
  • Auto-generating PDF documents for each registration received
